The Archaeological Excavation Semantic Modelling Workgroup is hosting its 2nd Semantic Modelling Workshop on Wednesday 24 April 2024, 13.00 CET.

RDF Creation Pipeline – A Workflow to transform Archaeological Data Sets from Tabular Data to RDF using RDFstar and Named Graphs by Gerald Hiebel & Milena Peralta Friedburg.

This workshop will present an approach to create RDF data from tabular data. The main goal of this method is the ability to integrate different sources in one Knowledge Graph by providing a generic data input frame. On a sample of archaeological data that has been entered in a spreadsheet (but could have been extracted from a database as well) we want to guide through the four steps we use to create RDF:

  1. Create data with unique identifiers and prefixes
  2. Load data in a Postgres database
  3. Map the data using OntotextRefine
  4. Load the data in a GraphDB (ontotext) repository using SPARQL to create RDF with the option of automated creation of RDFstar and named graph constructs.

We will go through an archaeological example and show other examples from Digital Humanities research to illustrate the generic approach. Guidelines with links to data are available in the document: RDF Creation Pipeline.
